Isaiah Katumwa

UGANDAN SAXOPHONIST | COMPOSER | RECORDING ARTIST

Isaiah Katumwa is a Ugandan-born, Billboard-charting jazz saxophonist, composer and recording artist whose Afro Smooth Jazz Fusion brings African identity into a contemporary, melodic sound. His career began onstage in 1995 and has carried him across Africa, Europe and the United States. Among the major artists he has shared stages with are Hugh Masekela, Manu Dibango, Jonathan Butler, Angélique Kidjo, Miriam Makeba, Dave Koz and Kirk Whalum.

HIS ARTISTIC VISION

“My music reflects the Africa I live in today—rooted in where I come from and shaped by the world we share. Through Afro Smooth Jazz Fusion, I bring African identity into a contemporary, melodic sound that feels natural to me and welcoming to listeners everywhere. For me, African culture is living and evolving; it can carry its roots while speaking in the voice of our time.”

Isaiah’s Christian faith is central to his life and artistic purpose. It shapes the hope he expresses through his music and his desire to use his gifts to serve and encourage others. Alongside his jazz recordings and performances, his Sinza worship music offers a direct expression of that faith. His signature words, “African, Smooth and Divine,” reflect the connection between his Ugandan roots, musical voice and devotion to God.

His upcoming single, My Hope, is scheduled for release on October 19, 2026. The song continues his contemporary Afro Smooth Jazz Fusion sound, carrying a message of hope through expressive saxophone and melody—a theme closely connected to the faith that sustains his own journey.

Mentorship is another important part of Isaiah’s work, reflecting his belief in using his experience to help others grow. He founded the Talanta Music Mentorship Program and is developing the Isaiah Katumwa Artist Development Program, From Talent to Career, to share practical lessons in artistic identity, professionalism and building a sustainable career in music. His approach encourages artists to understand the values and experiences that give their work meaning.

He is also preparing for Exploring Uganda with Isaiah, a planned tourism ambassador initiative with the Uganda Tourism Board. The initiative is intended to share the Uganda he knows and loves—its landscapes, people, culture, food, music and spirit—with audiences at home and around the world.
